Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training – Foundation Course

with Beth Donnelly & Lara Kohn Thompson

For over 20 years, Beth Donnelly and Lara Kohn Thompson have been partnering to train yoga teachers and health professionals in the art and science of perinatal yoga. With their combined backgrounds in movement, science, and tradition, they bring a wealth of knowledge, compassion, and practical expertise to this Yoga Alliance–certified Prenatal Teacher Training.

This joyful and in-depth training invites you into the unique journey of prenatal yoga, where the perinatal cycle touches both the primal and the divine. Prenatal yoga provides vital support for people as they attune to the profound physical, emotional, spiritual, and social transformations of pregnancy. Through accessible and powerful practices, teachers will learn how to help students cultivate balance, resilience, and ease during pregnancy, labor, birth, and early postpartum recovery.

A clear and comprehensive foundation in the stages of pregnancy, fetal development, and the physiological changes in the body. Learn the range of physical changes and challenges during pregnancy and when to suggest students seek medical or therapeutic care.

  • Asana & Sequencing
How to adapt and skillfully sequence yoga postures for each trimester, including safe modifications, contraindications, and supportive use of props.

  • Teaching Methodology
Frameworks for designing and sequencing safe, empowering, and flowing prenatal classes that integrate physical alignment with breath, mindfulness, restoration, and community connection

  • Holistic Tools for Pregnancy & Beyond
Exploration of yoga philosophy, chanting, pranayama, meditation, and visualization as tools for navigating pregnancy and the early postpartum journey.

  • Labor & Birth Preparation
Practices and techniques that support the body and mind in labor, including breath work, visualization, movement, and positions for comfort and progress.

  • Trauma-Informed Teaching
How to create safe, inclusive, and supportive spaces where students feel seen and heard, and where shared experience deepens community.

Structure of the Program

  • 60 hours of in-class training with Beth and Lara, combining lecture, discussion, experiential practice, and teaching labs.

  • 25 hours of out-of-class study, including prenatal class observations, required reading, and homework assignments to deepen integration.

Beth & Lara bring a unique blend of wisdom, humor, and heartfelt commitment to supporting teachers who wish to serve pregnant and postpartum communities. This training is more than professional development—it is a guided mentorship that will help you deepen your own practice of stillness and presence, to listen more fully, and to serve with knowledge, humility, and compassion.
